'The Elk Capital of Michigan'
Atlanta
Michigan is a popular vacation and hunting center. Area forest campgrounds
and Clear Lake State Park add to the area's attractions, as do golf and
the over 11 great fishing lakes in the area. People enjoy visiting
the natural beauty of the area with its many birds, wildlife, flowers and
trees. Deer and Elk are a very popular attraction and the fall colors
in the area are spectacular each year.
If
you are looking for a new area to explore in the winter months, then 'Elk
Country' is a place to consider. It is a paradise for snowmobilers
with over 135,000 acres of state land, 1,000 miles of trails, two tracks,
and unplowed forest roads for you to ride. Groomed trails connect
the communities of Atlanta, Lewiston, and Hillman and more groomed trails
leaving those areas will take you to Lovells, Grayling, Gaylord, Millersburg,
the Straits Area, and more.
Spring
is the perfect time for leisurely hikes through the woods. While
doing so you may find massive Elk antlers (sheds), that the animals lose
in early April. You will also enjoy the beauty of the wide range
of wild-flowers, and wildlife the area has to offer. Another popular
spring attraction is the Morel Mushrooms. People come from all over
to hunt the coveted Morel.
As
you can see, Atlanta is a wonderful place to visit, no matter what
the season may be.
